One Bread, One Body
Fingerprinting and Virtus
As part of the Diocesan safe environment program, volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and attend a Virtus workshop. This is a requirement for any adult - clergy, staff, and volunteers - working with children within a Catholic parish or school, including but not limited to Religious Education programs, CYO, etc. Information regarding these requirements as well as forms and Virtus scheduling, can be found here.
Catechist Certification
We encourage catechists and aides to pursue catechist certification through classes offered "in person" and online. There are two components to catechist certification process - methodology, i.e. the "nuts and bolts" of teaching Religious Education, and general theology.
For methodology, we will offer the 'Art of Catechesis.' This class normally takes place on a Saturday beginning at 9 am in the Sacred Heart Library; light breakfast is included and the class is free. *We will schedule 'Art of Catechesis' in 2020 and will communicate that date to volunteers when it is set. This class is also given at other parishes occasionally; if/when it is scheduled elsewhere we will let you know.
For the theology option, you can take 'Core Course: Introduction to the Catholic Faith' through Notre Dame STEP program. More detailed information and the registration link can be found here. The cost of this course is reimbursed to you by the parish following completion. Upcoming sessions are on the following dates:
